Saturday is 10th Annual Go Topless Day

In true equality, either everyone has it or no one has it.

Celebrate Go Topless Day

Perhaps you have heard the news of the next celebration coming up this weekend?

In case you aren’t up to speed on this one, Saturday is 10th Annual Go Topless Day.

No, this isn’t “fake news”.  Despite the rumors going around Chateau Samadhi, this isn’t an idea I came up with to see more boobs.

It’s the real deal. Well, sort of…

That’s not to say it’s an official National Holiday.  Go Topless Day isn’t likely to become the new Thanksgiving. (Although, most of us should probably give thanks for boobs…)

It is one of the many unofficial holidays which seem to proliferate these days.  Obviously, it’s a celebration that has caught on.  Sustaining an effort of this sort for a full decade isn’t simple.

In all honesty, I haven’t seen this advertised as heavily on social media as Steak and Blowjob Day.  Perhaps that says something more about the quality of my being social, then it does on the relative merits of the different celebrations.

Go Topless Day Protest

Of course, I would be remiss if I didn’t prominently feature the fact that Go Topless Day is really a protest.  As much as I’d like to pretend the event is just about bare boobies, it’s not.  Well, it is, but it’s not…

The event is a protest.  Laws are unequal. Men are free to bare their chests in the US. In most locations in the US, women do not share that same privilege.

So, I must confess.  I write this article from a position of privilege.  I already have the right to bare my chest.

I’m a big man.  I’m not young either.  Perhaps there are neighbors who earnestly wish I would not run outside in just my shorts to something from my car.

Regardless, that’s my right.   The women who live here at Chateau Samadhi do not share that privilege.  That, at least to my eyes, is wrong.

GoTopless Day 2017:  Saturday Aug. 26.

This year, GoTopless Day falls precisely on Women’s Equality Day, Aug 26. It is indeed on Aug 26, 1920, that women earned their right to vote on the basis of Gender Equality. In 1971, the US Congress has made Aug 26 into a nationally recognized date and named it “Women’s Equality Day”. The president of the United States is summoned to commemorate this date each year.

It is only logical that GoTopless Day protests (or celebrations depending on the legal status of your city) would fall on Women’s Equality Day since the right to go topless for women is based on gender equality as their right to vote once was.

On Saturday, Aug. 26, people in cities around the world are invited to stand up for women’s right to go topless in public. Please contact us if you would like to organize an event in your area so we can list your venue on our “Boob Map” 2017. (Please refer to our legal map in our section topless laws to know the topless status in your state and call your DA to know what your city’s is)

Women’s Equality Day

If you read the quote, you already know Saturday, August 26 2017 is also Women’s Equality Day.

Isn’t it a great piece of serendipity that the holiday and the protest coincide this year?

For the record, I don’t believe I’ll be able to make any of the official protests.  I’d have loved to travel to one of the cities where official protests are happening.  But, It’s just not happening this year.

Regardless, I do support the cause.

sponsored by aliens

Go Topless Day is sponsored by the Raelian Movement.  In fact, the event was originally created by the Raelians.  That’s the one detail I hadn’t yet disclosed.

Without going into too great detail about the Raelians, their beliefs are based on a series of alien encounters experienced by a man named Rael.

They expect future visitations by those extra-terrestrials.  And, their ongoing efforts are centered around preparing humanity for those visits.

To be honest, I’m not sure I understand the connection between future close encounters and the right to bare breasts.  Perhaps if I studied their belief more closely…

But, I’m not sure I care.  As far as I can tell, their beliefs are not harmful.  They don’t wish to oppress anyone’s rights, nor to discriminate.

I can live with that.  As long as the Raelian Movement does not infringe on my beliefs and practices, they are welcome to theirs.

And, if we can find common ground on equality issues, all the better.
